On
February 13, 2006, the Cal Grid Club of Sacramento
filled the
Sterling Hotel
Grand Ballroom to capacity to celebrate another
successful season of
Cal Football under Coach
Jeff Tedford.
Sacramento Grid Club
members were
also there to
honor
the winners of the 2006 Henry J. "Tiny" Bates Memorial
Award.
Marvin Philip, senior center from Oak Ridge High
School
in Cameron Park, and
Ryan O'Callaghan, senior offensive tackle from
Redding, were selected by the coaching staff as the
winners of this prestigious award,
given
to the outstanding senior Golden Bear player(s) from the
Sacramento area.
Prior to Coach
Tedford taking the stage,
Sandy Barbour, Cal's Athletic Director, spoke to the
crowd and provided details about the upcoming
Memorial Stadium renovation project. She also told
banquet attendees about the breadth of Cal athletic
programs with both top-25 national rankings and team
GPAs above 3.0.
Coach Jeff Tedford
followed Sandy Barbour and presented the Bates Awards to
Marvin Philip and Ryan O'Callaghan. Coach Tedford then
spoke about the upcoming season, as well as the 2006
recruiting class. Coach Tedford then addressed questions
from the capacity crowd, staying on stage until every
question was answered.
Sacramento Grid Club
members left the ballroom excited about the 2006
football season and next year's banquet.
